Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency (MIA: STEP) Registration is Full. Available for private scheduling Program Details The key to successful MI implementation is
supervisory feedback and coaching. The aim is to train individuals who have already acquired
MI skills on approaches for observing and coaching their staffs on the
proper application of the method. MIA:STEP is a method for training persons
whose primary task is the completion of assessments, especially those
assessments that occur at the initiation of a treatment episode, to use MI for
joining and engaging individuals, receiving deeper and more accurate
information and improving show rates and commitment to treatment after the
assessment. Additionally, it is a method for supervisors
of persons who use MI in their practice to enhance their MI Skills through a
simple scoring and feedback technique.
The course teaches effective coaching and supervisory skills to help
team leaders, supervisors and managers apply effective feedback and coaching as
they work with their staff. Participating graduates are encouraged to arrange periodic coaching
and feedback sessions with the instructor, either individually or as a group to
again insure fidelity to the method.
